Schöneberger Südgelände Park: Berlin’s Graffiti Playground
For those who have been to Berlin, you can fully understand the graffiti culture that’s seen in almost every neighborhood. It’s such an active and creatively talented sub-community, the city allows graffiti artist to practice in a local park.

This is a mecca for any talented street artist or one in the making. Just off of the S-bahn 2 or 25 at the Priesterweg stop, you can reach Südgelände park. An old railway site used for Tempelholf before WW II, and since was first left alone for nature to take it back but more recently has been turned into a public park. Something that is very typically German to have a large abundance of green space for people to get outside as much possible. This park is special though as it has an alleyway of concrete walls that are welcome, if not encouraged for graffiti artist to practice their street art. When I visited the park, I noticed a couple groups of youngsters practicing their hand at perfecting how to properly create street art. A rare site to see in almost any city, but this is why Berlin fosters so much creativity allowing each to their own devices. Even if ones creative outlet is street art. Don’t miss your chance at escaping the city for a short train ride away while maybe seeing the next Banksy in the making.
