This blog post was originally shared Summer of 2015:
During the month of June, I visited 4 European cities over 3 weeks with only carry on luggage using budget airlines such as Easyjet, Transavia, Vueling, and AirEuropa. Interchanging my clothes accordingly to my environment either it be Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, or Paris.
First step when packing for long term is to think where you’re going, what you’ll be doing there, and what you may purchase when there to calculate extra space needed. Once have a rough idea, next is to layout preplanned outfits to each location you’ll visit. These outfits should consist of basics that are easily interchangeable with other outfit so it doesn’t look like you’re wearing the same out only after first week.Once you’ve done you’re preparation it’s time for packing.
- Shoes at the bottom squished together.
- Your cosmetics.
- Your bulky clothes like jeans rolled together like a taco.
- The rest of your light clothes that are also rolled together creating more space.
For my trip I packed 5 pairs of shoes (white vans, white sneakers, blue Reef sneakers, Havainas sandals, Kenzo espadrilles, and Soludos), 2 jeans (blue Express, black Paige denim), 4 shorts (2 floral print Only & Sons, Original Penguin, and American Eagle), and 14 shirts (Kenzo, Jack & Jones, Vans, Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply, and H&M)
