If you enjoy a clean beach in the heart of Barcelona there are slim pickings. As most (if not all) of the beaches on Barcelona’s coast are man-made and have a lot of waste (mostly because of all the tourist that don’t clean up). Though if you don’t mind a few gay dudes, some naked here and there (women too), and a little walk out of the city center. Mar Bella beach is perfect for you. As it isn’t as touristic as Barceloneta or Sant Sebastia right next to the W Hotel, which is also right next to Barcelona’s harbor for incoming and outgoing freight shipping. So you can only assume how these beaches can become a little disgusting. Now I may be bias because I’m a gay man myself, but I’ve been to the other beaches to try them and they just don’t compare. At Mar Bella you get more space and cleaner water while still being in Barcelona. Though if you have the extra time there are of course better beaches shortly away like SITGES in the south only 30 minutes by train or SANT POL DE MAR in the north that is an hour away by train. Depending on your time these are my suggestions for soaking up some rays while in Barcelona, because it wouldn’t be a proper trip without visiting the beach at least once or twice. 😉
