Today marks my first week in Berlin, and boy has this city changed my perspective on partying hard in New York until 4am. Here, if you are going home at 4am without watching the sun rise, you’re doing something wrong. The weekend nightlife starts Thursday and doesn’t stop until Monday afternoon. Some of the clubs here open at midnight Friday and don’t close until Monday afternoon (Berghain, Watergate, Kitkat, ect), allowing you to sleep in certain areas, dance for more than 18 hours straight if your body allows, and will test how bad you really love to party. Over the course of the weekend I started with a 4am and then a two 10am nights. Going home when the sun has fully risen feels bad, but yet so good at the same time. 😉
As for the style here, it is so grunge-rock-punk style that reminds me of the early 90’s mixing Nirvana and The Ramones. Anything black, pierced, tattooed, or plaid goes perfectly here. They really are a city that’s only been unified for 25 years as seen in the culture of rebellious wardrobe and crazy partying as a adolescent does. It’s wild to see all of the graffiti throughout the city, just like these pieces in the courtyard of my Airbnb flat. There is a lot to see in Berlin as it’s a growing city that’s welcoming to be apart of the rebirth.
